Hi Derek,
Do you need any help with this? It seems that things have slowed to a crawl and backers are getting nervous.
Maybe a little more/better communication via the Kickstarter would be a good idea? Some WIP shots or demo files (even if they aren't 100% done yet) would be a good way to keep backers happy....
Just a suggestion, but either way, if you need help with some things please shout out - happy to help!

But what help can we give him if we aren't physically there by his side?
If we aren't there by his side, all we can do is harass him into submittance, though most people doesn't react well to having more stones added to their burden.

You're right aetesaki, and I don't imagine anyone is more frustrated that the system's launch is delayed than Derek. That being said, it's also understandable that a lot of us who backed the project with not an insignificant amount of money are getting antsy to see some return on our purchase. Now, I don't want Derek to compromise on quality or the deliverables. I also don't want him to receive unwarranted harassment and negativity that, given the nature of the internet, is all too easy to send and can be very harmful.
What Mark and I wanted to say, and I realize I'm speaking for a person I have never met nor spoken with before, is that Derek has help if there is something we can do. Whatever that may be is unknown to us, since we're not part of the project crew, but should there be something we're ready and willing to sacrifice our time and give our skills to help him bring Simple System to life.
Also, what Mark said is absolutely true. Community management, especially in a situation as unclear as this is, is of vital importance. Doubly so on the internet. That is why gaming companies have dedicated community managers, for example. Weekly updates, even if they are just say a picture of a misprinted run from the printing company and a few sentences to explain that, would go a long way. No news causes uncertainty and worry.

I know, I went for broke too. $100+… but we who went for everything, has a good source for our own ideas in the demo.
Though I agree with the idea of a community manager, he still need to live close by Derek to be able to access the data that's to be released, or else it would be a lot of double work.
For now it seems the best thing we can do is to take it easy, and work on our own custom content to the system, and be ready to amend it to the final release of the rules.

Delays are acceptable, lack of communication is not. Writing a few lines each week would take mere minutes.
Derek, you've given no reason I can find not to release the digital files, and meanwhile you've been at the printers for months on end. I need to hear some details or else kindly contact me regarding a refund. Thank you.

I think my offer for help was taken by some of you as sarcasm or malicious in some way. No. There are many of us on this big thing called the internet who have skills that could assist - such as GIMP editing, proofreading, graphic design etc. For example, I can see that Derek has put a lot of time and effort into the custom setting cards - this could be outsourced to volunteers instead of taking up his time which can be spent finishing the core sets. I for one couldnt care less about the custom setting cards, I dont want them, but I do want to see simple system delivered, so if that means I have to chip in and do setting cards to help get the whole project finished then I am more than happy to help where I can. So - my offer still stands. Derek, if you need help please give us a shout

Greatly appreciate the update from DI, thank you.
Mark, one thing to consider is that there may be legal/ownership implications on anything you contribute. Derek might have to get you to sign a work for hire contract in order to avoid any claims you may have to the work (and simply taking someone's word for it is opening the door to problems). So while the offer might be appreciated, it may be that there are sensible precautions slowing down accepting it.

It is a GPL product anyway, so anything contributed to it can also be covered under GPL. Anyway, looks like Derek is too busy to worry about the forum at the moment so we can leave off - it looks like he is taking steps to get back on track which is fantastic.
