Hello all! One of the most interesting features of the Simple System is the Story Card, which allows players to change the scene in some way. It encourages players to think in terms of story and since its a physical card in their hand its helps them not to forget the power it grants them and to make creative use of it at crucial and unexpected moments. Some of the most fun I've had playing Simple System has been seeing the crazy ways players use their Story Cards. This thread is to share those stories.
I'll get the ball rolling: A player lobbed a grenade at a pack of guards, flipping a triple strike. Combined with the direction widget, the grenade ended up rolling right back under his feet! He quickly tossed me his Story Card and declared "It's a dud!", thus saving himself from an untimely demise.
Another player was pinned to the wall by a deadly mercenary who had been hunting them, and gave me his Story Card to say there was a fire extinguisher on the wall within arms reach. He was then able to grab the extinguisher, and blast the mercenary with it. Since we were playing in a scifi setting, the extinguisher expelled an expanding fire-retardant foam, which quickly hardened encasing the mercenary from the neck down. The player had a trip mine in his inventory, which he set to be triggered by motion and placed it on the trapped mercenary's chest. He said something snarky and left the merc to his fate.
Ok, your turn! Please share the funny and cool ways your players are using their Story Cards, I can't wait to hear them!
