(Aah, had a lenthy post halfway done yesterday, but then everything crashed.)
So, Sunday.
I get to my table about 15-20 minutes before my game, already one of the players is sitting there. I took a look at the signup sheet, and there were three backups in there too, nice.
The rest of the players arrive as I take out the props and set up the table, and I begin explaining the basic Turn-Flip-Succeed/Fail mechanic, while I'm taking out the decks and spreading the Story/Hero/HP cards and character cards, and explaining how they work. 10 Minutes later we had a group of five characters all ready, and that was with some of them having to wait for others to choose their skills. They even discussed them with each other, "You could take hacking maybe, this is a Sci-fi setting after all, and you have +1 Int." etc.
The Party, approximately:
A high class Arrogant Sick Strategist.
A brutish Charge Lethal Combatant who went "Oh god yes!" when I showed him the Brawlers Ax.
The Hacker Con Artist/Street Cred, who had atleast Cruel.
The Paranoid Stealthy Hard Hitter, who marked his profession simply as 'ninja'.
I'd say the last guy was a Marksman Flirt, but not 100% sure.
They wake up, the paranoid guy pushes everyone away and shouts something while retreating to a corner. Door goes boom, they meet Drake, get some weapons and the arrogant snob demands to search the body first.
He gets a critical fail.
"Oh this can't be good."
'You find a grenade', I say.
Someone remarks that doesn't seem like a fail.
'You don't see a pin on it', I grin.
Before anyone can say anything other than the unanimous "O crap!", the ninja flips his Agility and declares he reflexively grabs the grenade and tosses it out of the door into the next room, succeeding in his attempt.
'The grenade explodes with a loud *THUD!* Flip for Initiative."
The grenade actually blew the closest enemy up, and the marksman was up first. He took a chance and ran up behind the wall/divider, to get in range of the top guard. He took aim at one of the bottom guards, but missed due to the range penalty. ...And ended up hitting the other guard, nearly incapacitating her.
The strategist told the skirmisher to charge at the bottom guards, giving him a bonus to his Run Build attempt and his Charge attempt.
"As i run towards the guard, screaming, my axe grinds spars on the wall behind me. I crash into the guard with my axe swinging..." He flips, and gets a three check hit, I fail the defense flip. "...I cleave the guard cleanly in half." "You shall from now on be employed as my bodyguard" said the aristocrat, and he agreed, providing the pay was reasonable.
The next up just flipped his Charisma right up, asking if the guard would wish to surrender. I opposed the attempt with the guards Wisdom, at a penalty, as she had just seen one of her co-workers blown up, the other shot and the one standing next to her cut in half. You don't need to be a genius to see the smart move was to give up.
So, they're out of the place and have a new member, who now wishes to join their party as her employers likely won't look at her kindly for letting a bunch of high profile 'clients' escape.
The hacker hits up the computers to figure out the fastest way out, and gets a crit.
'After a while you figure out how to unlock an exit path for your party, but as you were trying to unlock the doors, you stumbled upon your files in the database. It seems this facility was just rented to hold you for a couple of days, in order to continue experiments in something that highly suggests cloning.' I decided to try how it'd change the game to tell them the end hook in the beginning.
"But I'm unique and perfect!", the aristocrat cried out. The table laughed.
They leave and find the club after a while, after nearly failing to use an information kiosk. The Stealthy guy just slips in right past the guard ("He went in ahead to check that it wasn't a trap"), while the rest of the group walked in slightly later, as the con artist claimed to be a health inspector and succeeded. After a bit of back'n'forth at the bar ("Anyone remember what the guys name was? Eh, I'll go ask the bartender") they finally get an audience with Tibus, and after a bit, they decide to gamble it and trust the Con Artist to win Tibus in Raz.
"So you wish to cheat against Tibus in his own game? Alright, but if you lose they'll notice you tried to cheat, and the guards will attack. Still wish to cheat?" "Yup."
Well, they won, in a best three out of five match. They already won the first one, but he wanted to play more.
This is also where the Flirt tried his charm on Tibus' bodyguard, but got rejected.
Before they left, the aristocrat spread some cash to get some drinks for everyone, and then threw the rest of it to the Hacker. "Go win us some cash", thus giving him a bonus to his game. He started at red, haha.
After finishing their drinks and cleaning house at the Raz table, they head to the Spaceport.
They begin at the top elevator, the ninja sneaks down to the side of the transport ship, and plants a few tripmines under the boarding hatch. They wait for the guards to get closer and go *Boom!*
'You guys really do like to start with a bang, huh?'
The initiative order of the combat pretty much settled it. I went first, but I only could get aim at the Arrogant Strategist, who took a few good hits. it was his turn next, so he just sprayed back with his pistol, managing to hit someone. He then threw me the Story card and said the bottom elevator was open, and dived for cover out of line of sight. The Skirmisher ran and charged at them, moving an impressive 15 squares and again killing one of them in one hit, although most of them had already taken damage from the mines. Hiring the guard as a henchman turned out to be a smart move too, even though it upped the total amount of guards in the fight to 6 it still was very effective. After they finished up the guards and managed to escape the hangar without further fighting, we decided to call it the end.
(We took quite a bit of time roleplaying at the bar, which was nice, and there was a break in the middle for a quick bio.)
In the end, a very fun game, and one I'll hopefully remember for a while. Sadly we didn't have time to finish it, we were way over the 2 hour mark at the end too but there wasn't any hurry to quit in the middle so we finished at the hangar.
