Now that the Simple System is closer to be released than ever (I know, I know, every day is closer than ever etc., but still) I'm interested in hearing if people more experienced in RPGs (and maybe the digital versions...) have been thinking about a GM Screen for Simple System? What should be on the GM side of it, what should be visible to the players, that kind of thing.

My idea for a GM screen for the game is use the same lamentation on the character cards to make it easily customizable.

Would you need a screen in Simple System?

I suppose you wouldn't really need one, as it would be easy enough to draw a resolution card in secret without a screen if need be. Though it would be nice to have it if you wanted to keep the players from reading the stuff on the enemy cards or your notes.

Hiding the NPC cards of hidden enemies could be a use case. Obscuring the amount of HP left on the enemies could also change the game a bit.
As for what info the screen could hold, maybe the status effect descriptions for example? Icon, name, effect. Could very well be the only table in the game. ;p
I'll need to see the final rule book before I can say if there'd be something else I'd put there. It's been a while since our last game, and I don't have the rules at hand right now.

Actually, you do not need a screen. To hide the data on the NPC, all you need is something to hide it with, a piece of paper to place above it, or to place it inside.
As for the rule book, it will be available in ePub-format for use on tablets, and those are easy to hide in plain view. You can also go environmental and use the tablet to write your notes on too.

Yeah you don't need a screen, but for some games it is a really nice luxury. Most of time the screens have commonly referenced rules listed on them that are nice to have at a glance, like the definition of status effects and charts of common tasks with DCs and the skill used for the check. Another thing is it just seems like a tradition of pen and paper RPGs for the GM to have a screen obscuring their portion of the table.

I'm sure there will be a lot more to talk about on this subject once the final rulebook is released, soon!

I feel like it's a backwards step for such an innovative system. If anything you need a player screen, projecting information out for people to quickly reference, not horded by the inscrutable GM.

Indeed, the player-facing side should also have useful data, not just pretty art.

Indeed, the player-facing side should also have useful data, not just pretty art. This is what I always do with my GM screens, and have received thanks from my players. As an example I am running a Pendragon campaign now and my custom screen has important maps and simple reference tables on the player side. My side has equipment stats, combat options, glory (experience) rewards, quick enemies etc.

Which is why I would like to see the GM screen have some wet/dry erase capability to make it easily customizable to the setting a person is running. One panel is probably all that's need for referencing important things in the rules like status effects, icons, combat actions, Hero and Story Point usage. Though I suppose there might be more stuff in the full rule book.
